Leaderboard chart

So, some folks from the community came up with an idea. What if we could see what some of the leader board action/battles looked like, over the course of an event, by collecting leader board VP over regular intervals? What if we took all those data points, and charted them? The idea gained some traction after the last skirmish event, so we took it a step further.

One of the lead guys sent me this chart from one of the last shuttle events. We've omitted names to keep things anonymous, but this is the top 10 from aforementioned event, over 96 hours.

We'll continue to watch data over events, as some of this data is interesting.

Neat. It would be of more interest during an event. The above chart is skewed by the leader. It would be interesting to just see 2nd thru tenth.

Yeah everything keeps going up and up. Six months ago a faction/galaxy hybrid was 1,000,000 points for top 25. A recent one was 1.5 million. 50% more in six months.

Top 25 might be better since that's the cutoff for multiple 5*s in most events.

There is a lot more data, i think for this sample set, it was shrunk down to just the top 10. with too many lines, the graph becomes difficult to read.

I agree that is why I mentioned the way the leader skewed the graph.

Yup, top 25 for factions and faction/galaxy hybrids, and top 15 for galaxies and skirmishes. But since Skimishes are a little less than once a month so far, I'd say that factions and faction/galaxy hybrids still comprise "most" events.

Also, I agree that the data is fascinating...

I'm guessing the plateaus are sleepy time. Would be interesting to see the data for galaxies and skirmishes for sure...

Wait, people actually sleep during faction events?! 🖖🏻

  • As a scientist, I find the data interesting and absolutely support your efforts. (And kudos for seemingly not missing any interval datapoints - that's group dedication right there!)

As a player, nothing about this graph surprises me. It just confirms that the top-10 play the game the same way I do for my rank 300-700 placements. We plug away, and plug away, and plug away, ad infinitum. Occasionally, we switch from skill boosts to speed boosts (or perhaps in the top 10 it's from 3* speed boosts to 4* speed boosts). I see mostly the same names when I check my leaderboard standing, 'cause we're all doing pretty much the same thing on the same schedules. The only variable in my rank range seems to be who decides to use speed boosts on Mon morning vs who decides to stick to skill boosts while accepting some loss of rank position to the speed boosters.

I enjoy the challenge of building an effective faction crew, but to those that say faction events are not a grind, I say humbug and good day sir!

well one thing someone could tell from this would be, if you maintain a R2 coefficient of 1, through 96 hours of a skirmish, or to a lesser extent, a galaxy event, you're running a macro. on the chart, that would like like a perfectly linear progression

minutes, from what i understand, since event start.

I see a couple of straight inclines there. Hm.... 🤔

You expect straight lines, to a certain extent. While people are playing, it's pretty likely they'll play at a consistent rate for some amount of time. It's the straight lines that last for days on end that would be suspect.

Out of curiosity, I tested myself. My max tapacity is 2.5 hours of tapping in one session. :p Recovery is longer than that. So just imagine what my graph would look like!

I envision: /\ ___/\___(sleep)___(more sleep)_/\______(sheer boredom)_____/\ (score was slipping, had to tap more)... (yes, I'm kidding)

with the addition of Voyages, and all the ways to accumulate chrons, as well as the fact that skirmishes actually can reward chrons, its not super surprising, that the event scores are and will continue to sky rocket;)

You mean like the people in 1st and second that have apparently been playing without stopping for 24hrs straight (except for a short pause that could be caused an anti macro pop up)?

Well, they haven't lasted for "days" yet, but, yes, if they continued their current trajectory with minimum deviation, that would be very suspicious.

Edit: If anything, the line if the #2 player looks significantly more suspect than the #1.

agreed, player 1 looks possible, but absolutely like inhuman dedication. Player 2 looks really suspect.

  • I was rank 10 yesterday until I gave in to my wrist telling me to eff off. Should be a straight line then flat lmao. That is what I would expect to see.
I'll give it more of a go when I get home from work and try to keep up with those who aren't playing, but are (wink wink) I'd like to have a sub 100 finish, but I just don't see that being humanly possible.

As the player In first, if anyone would like to drop by the Bellagio, you can find me tapping away at a poker table where I was from 11 am pacific yesterday to 6am pacific today. And again starting at about 10:30 am pacific today.

Playing long poker sessions is something I’ve done for quite a while and putting a phone on the rail and tapping isn’t much extra work.
The chart does show your effort and your break. I assume it will resume, when you start again.

We will probably see 4 days of it too at end of event.

We need to keep in mind that no assumption should be made until we know how long of time is being displayed.

But In my younger days I put 72 hours straight in working on a program for college.
I only had space on the computer for my assembled data, the listing of my code and my actual code. Before I could run the assembler I had to delete the list file.
At 72 hrs. of no sleep and umpteen times of going thru the process I accidentally deleted my code. That is when I went home (and got sleep only on arrival at home to find the police were looking for a missing person, ME)

Suffice it to say I tried going to the computer department and getting my code back from backup. After 4 days. I got advice from someone who told me of a Primos editor command to overwrite columns in a file. I was very good back in those days using that editor. Took me about an hour with the editor to turn my list file into my code again. Most of the time was spent on creating the editor,I think, script to do it.

Did some looking up PrimOS the operating system, Prime the computer.

Not to be rude, but Im thinking if people spent less time making graphs and charts, about what people do or not do in this event, they would probably have more time to actually rank better in the event;)

Wow, you must be one heck of a special VIP since casinos do not allow use of cellphones at their gaming tables.

there is a difference between table games like blackjack against the casino where cells are not allowed and rules for poker rooms where you play other players.

The Bellagio poker room allows you to text watch videos (with headphones) and play games on your phone but you must stand up from the table for a voice call.

They even build USB ports into the table so you can charge your phone or iPad at the table and not leave.

That is less suspicious than the players in two and three. I can see the line is not smooth, there are a lot of short, un-even breaks, plus one longer one.

The player currently in third place has one very long, and very linear slope, slightly greater than yours. He then stops very abruptly.

Red, currently in two is the suspicious one. The line is almost linear, he may have taken short breaks to warp-10 ship battles and get intel. His slope is about 5/6 of you and two, as if he is using Ru'afo and has not discovered the bug.

I didn't see any pop-up in 15 ish hours of constant play. The lack of protection from other players being able to use macros is actually the main reason I have stopped playing this event.

Well, for competitive reasons I’m glad you stopped, but dissapointed you felt you had to for that reason.

I could only keep pace with you the first couple hours before I sat at the poker tables.
Once I had that going on I was consistently falling behind by about 5k an hour.

Back to tapping now for me after 5 hours of sleep, though probably about 4-5 hours more before the card game I want starts back up.
