Anybody know how many fleets there are? How many compete in a given weekend? Rank seems diminished without comparison.

According to the Fleet Leaderboard, 11,324 fleets took part in the last event.

    I often wonder this. Thanks!

Probably a few more than that as some fleets don't appear, like my one! But safe to say "a lot" of fleets exist! ;)

That's a pretty wide-ranging question. However, if I understand what you're asking, fleets that take on newer players (who generally have captain levels below say, 30) are probably not going to be ones with enough stronger players to rank very highly in events. There are exceptions, of course, but I wouldn't expect any high event ranks or high Starbase levels (they might not even hit their daily fleet goals regularly). If you can manage to get into a fleet that hits fleet dailies most of the time, consider yourself very fortunate — the rest of it doesn't matter nearly as much as that.

May I ask to poll the more experienced players. I just am finishing a 20 hour voyage. I received some cargo goodies but it too about 10 days of my 100 dilithium daily allotment from my monthly membership. I want to build crew efficiently, however, is this a waste of good dilithium?

Have you purchased your additional shuttlecraft yet? Maxing out at four shuttles should be your first dilithium purchase. Then save for half-off crew slot sales.

If you are active, most fleets will take you. I personally chose a fleet to grow with, but you don't need to. In fact, my fleet has spaces available. Look up Franks N Beans in the fleet section or PM me so I can send your info to my Admiral.

Active player is more important to most fleets than current status.

Four shuttles is a must. But I don't get why I should waste Dil on crew slots.
I'm currently level 69, and have "only" 115 crew slots that I use for:
    - 8 2*/3*cadets
    - 24 not yet fully fused 4* and 5* crew
    - 60 FF/FE 4* crew
    - 11 FF/FE 5* crew
That leaves me 12 open slots to use for new event crew and finishing 1* crew to get Dilithium from the "Immortalize"-achievement.
I can run 4K shuttles in events and 8h voyages besides that. The only thing I need is more Honor to FF 5* crew.

Past a certain point, you shouldn't, imo. Buying more crew slots is an endless cycle: until you adopt a method of crew management that works for you, you will continually run short on space, no matter how many slots you have. If you're stuck with the initial 60 slots (or whatever it is now), then it can be a bit dicey to maintain things, but for someone who is where you are now, there's always something that can be done.

Crew slots get expensive very quickly, even with the half-price sale. I’m currently at 171/205 with a rather full meat locker (364 total immortalized, with only a couple of dupes from a long time ago). I’ve aggressively frozen crew that no longer see regular usage and don’t try to chase every new 1/5* that is released...mostly because I am not going to spend enough money to immortalize them all even if that would yield a couple of better voyage or gauntlet performers.

Bottom line is that you can only use so many crew at once - five in the gauntlet, 4-20 on shuttles, and 12 on voyages. You of course need a little variation due to featured gauntlet traits and voyage traits/skills, plus some green and blue crew for cadet challenges, and some people will hold onto one or more crew solely for arena purposes. Beyond that, it’s whatever crew you want to keep because you like the art, you like the character or the episode, whatever...I keep Tommy Gun Dixon around even though he no longer slips even onto a rare voyage because he is my absolute favorite Picard variant, for example.

VIP0 players make it work with the absolute bare minimum of crew slots (which can be expanded after immortalization achievement dilithium is used on shuttle slots), so it is possible to roll with 60 or fewer slots at a time. However, depending on your crew acquisition/leveling/fusing habits 125, 150, or more total slots do make life easier. Much more than 200, though, and it seems awfully wasteful unless you spend all of your merits on items or gauntlet refreshes.

Right, but this is "Newbie Questions," so while 115 crew slots is manageable for you at level 69, a Captain starting now is only going to have around 85 available slots after purchasing the first two (?) credit-only tiers of slots. Which fill up relatively quickly.

Hi, this is my first post. I have a few questions:
    .
    • 1. What does "VIP0 players" mean? (Dirk Gunderson posted this, 2 posts above this post)
    • 2. What does "FF/FE" mean when referring to crew?
    • 3. For the love of God, is there any way to stop Janeway telling me what she thinks of threats *ALL*THE*TIME*; and Q frequently wanting to see if I can dance? These comments are funny the first couple of times, but quickly get annoying. (They'd be OK if they were said (say) at most once in 24 hours.)
    .
    Many thanks!

    Yes, well spotted!

If you fancy some retrogaming, most/all of the Zork series of games are available on Steam (legal) and gog.com (legal and DRM-free). Only the first few games are text based.
(For the full series, search wikipedia.org for zork. I tried posting a link but this forum is too paranoid to let me yet.)

My favourite of the series was "Zork: Grand Inquisitor"
    Great sense of humour.

    Hi. Another few Qs

Q1: Is there any point in having multiple FFed chars? currently i have 3 Airiams:
    a. 4/4 (level 40+)
    b. 4/4 (level 1)
    c. 1/4 (level 1)
b+c seem completely useless. Is there anything useful I can do with them? Should I get them to inspect the outside door of an airlock?

Q2: Why does my crew XP keep halving? Every time i complete a mission the XP is shown under the 3 crew members, then a second later drops to half. Eg all 3 crew displayed "+ 72 XP" initially, then a second later it changed to "+ 36 XP". These are non-WARP missions.

Q3: How can I start a new thread? Am I still too newbie to start one?

    Thanks!

    1) There are some crew who it's helpful to have duplicates of, but in most cases, it's superfluous. Personally, I have two Romulan Datas, two Ilia Probes, and several versions of Jadzia dupes. I wouldn't suggest keeping duplicates unless they either have killer stats, or are main cast characters who frequently show up as bonus crew in events. In the case of Airiam, one is plenty, imo. Thank the others for their service, escort them out the nearest airlock, and take the Honor.

    2) XP is highest the first time you successfully complete a mission at a particular difficulty level.

    3) You can't start new threads until you are "level 2" on the forums and your account is a certain number of days old. You can get to higher levels by adding a custom avatar and by getting more "awesomes" (I've helped you out a bit on that last count).

I've had opportunities a few times to have double crew, but I never have space. I always have new 4* to keep. The second copy will take a bunch of resources and use a crew space that another crew could use.

Yeah, I considered that likelihood in my reply — I still think one copy is enough, since she is not part of the main cast of DSC (unless things drastically change in the 2nd season and she gets a lot more focus), and so although she might be bonus crew in an upcoming Discovery mega, that's probably all one could hope for with her, event-wise (not to mention that her stats don't warrant 2 copies, regardless).

  • Thanks for your thoughts
  • Hi guys, this might seem like an obvious question but I just can't work it out.
The trigger bonus for space battles, how does that work? Do I 'trigger' it myself in some way or am I supposed to be looking for something before I activate that person during battles? Or is it just a random thing?
  • You need the ship ability that correspondes to that trigger to be active before you click on the crew.
So, if the crew triggers a bonus with boarding then you first need to activate boarding and then that crew member.
You need to make sure you're using a ship that can grant that trigger, and you need to make sure that the time it correctly. For example, a trigger using cloak would cause the cloak to cease, so it's best then to activate your cloak, wait a couple of seconds until its a couple of seconds from dropping and then activate the crew member.
There's some info on the wiki regarding crew ability and triggers, it might also be helpful.

    https://stt.wiki/wiki/Bonus_Ability
  • Thank you, there's some really useful information on there. I couldn't seem to find how to tell what triggers a ship has or how to activate the trigger during battle though.
