  • Something that might be a bit stupid, but the Lt. is now universal. A lot of the characters on the Stat page are missing the period. The following would need to be modified:

    Lt Commander Airiam
    Lt Commander Data
    Lt Commander Jadzia Dax
    Lt Commander La Forge
    Lt Commander Nella Daren
    Lt Commander Scott
    Lt Jadzia Dax
    Lt Naomi Wildman
    Lt Sulu
    Lt Tasha Yar
    Lt Thomas Riker

There might be others; I haven't had a chance to go through the list completely.

Interesting, I had never noticed this. Is this something DB changed or has it always been wrong in the DNA? Either way, I've had a quick look at the game/DNA and it seems to me that your list is actually complete.
  • Some are already correct in the list .. and on my IOS phone all show Lt. now in the vault ..

Keep in mind though, the sorting will change with the update, as some get shuffled around making a "easy" copy/paste not possible this update.

    Lt. Ash Tyler
    Lt. Commander Jack Crusher
    Lt. Commander Uhura
    Lt. JG Palmer

    Would get sorted between

    Lt Commander Airiam
    Lt Commander Data
    Lt Commander Jadzia Dax
    Lt Commander La Forge
    Lt Commander Nella Daren
    Lt Commander Scott
    Lt Jadzia Dax
    Lt Naomi Wildman
    Lt Sulu
    Lt Tasha Yar
    Lt Thomas Riker

  • Something really picky, but it's been bugging me for a while now...

In the Set Starbase/Collection Bonuses, the font is Nunito... except for the Engineering row where the font is Arial.

I've been fixing it manually each time, but wondering if we could get consistent font by default.
  • Also... with the new sheet, I found a bug. It's recommending that I unfreeze a few folks in order to fuse them... except if you can freeze them, they're immortal, and you can't fuse immortals.

PLEASE don't fix these character names if it means we'll have a version with incorrect alphabetical sorting for copy-paste from one version to the other. I don't care if the period is there or not! With so many crew this one-time manual crew review would be a nightmare in order to correct an extremely minor grammatical inaccuracy.

It looks like the change (at least on the wiki) occurred a few weeks ago.

OK, so if I read that right, once I get my Tuvix up to 100 (I made a dumb fusing decision a while back), it'll stop recommending that I unfreeze Tuvok and Neelix?

And frankly, the Big Book is plenty available as is.
Thanks for your reply. I mostly agree with your assessment. The only point where I would disagree is that both tools are antitheses; I see them more as complementary.

The Big Book takes into account a number of things that are difficult (if not impossible) to capture in a couple of Google Sheets formulas. At the same time, the DNA Checklist offers some insight into where a crew member fits in with the crew that you already actually have. However, both have the same goal of providing advice to players on crew management.

I personally use both tools (as well as the STT Level 100 sheet) to make decisions and I would advise anyone to rely on more than one tool in any case.
a few quick ideas to be tossed into the kitty...
    Thanks for your suggestions!

It would be easy to include a setting for the numbers of crew quarters. However, the sheet does suggest for each individual crew whether they have any remaining requirements and thus are safe to get rid of or not. The number of available crew quarters would not directly impact the recommendations.

FE Status and/or Level can be entered into the Notes column. The sheet only contains the stats for level 100 FE crew - allowing people to specifically set lower levels or other statuses could create the expectation that the sheet would take those settings into account, which it does not.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by adding base/prof/comb pairs or what the intended use of this would be.
Something that might be a bit stupid, but the Lt. is now universal.
Ah, this is indeed a recent change by DB – this has been quite inconsistent in the past. Good to know it has now been addressed. I will have to think a bit on whether I include this into the DNA Checklist, however.

Fixing these names would change the sorting order for this short list of crew, and would mean that errors could be introduced when copy/pasting from a previous version. The list of affected crew is very short and it would not be the end of the world, but it would also be for only very minimal gain...

The same issue is also actually the case with "Dark Ages" McCoy, who has been listed as simply Dark Ages McCoy in the checklist and is sorted under the D, rather than all the way at the start before 1701 Jadzia Dax. I have never bothered 'fixing' him for the same reason, especially as his reordering would then affect the entire list.
OK, so if I read that right, once I get my Tuvix up to 100 (I made a dumb fusing decision a while back), it'll stop recommending that I unfreeze Tuvok and Neelix?

It is currently set up that the recommendation 'Can be fused into X' shows up until X has been immortalised. There is a setting on the 'Settings' page to disable the Fusing requirements, but this turns it off across the board for all fusable crew.

Maybe I could specifically disable the requirement from showing up on Frozen crew, so that it at least does not give any 'Unfreeze' recommendations, as those do make the least sense.
  • As far as the Lt. thing, a simple Find and Replace does the trick. (Ctrl+H)

    0ekujibojmw1.png

There is a space at the end of Lt and Lt. This would need to be done on both the Crew tab and the Stats tab for Column A.

Not a big deal, as I have a lot of customizations on the sheet. One more step isn't the end of the world.

Seems like DB might have hired an English major as a summer intern. I am glad the Lt vs. Lt. inconsistency is gone.

Keep up the good work, @Leshy ! 🖖

  • Now if they would just modify 'Lieutenant,' it would all be consistent. :)
  • I have a weird behavior for some characters from some times now.
They are reported as "Need" but as soon I get them and set them 1/4, for example, they appear now as "Space" while some others appear "Need" as they should do.
  • @Leshy et al, thank you for the hard work that has gone into this.

I tried to find an answer, but there are A LOT of pages to read through and the search feature doesn't seem to search only this thread. Please excuse if it has been asked/answered.

Is there a reason to keep "Best 3* XXX Base" if I have "Best 4* XXX Base"? For example, I have 4 "Best 4* SEC Base" Active characters, with two additional "Best 3* SEC Base" Active characters, yet the sheet is suggesting I Unfreeze an additional 4 "Best 3* SEC Base" characters.

    Thank you again!

This is what the sheet is intended to do. When you do not have a crew member, the sheet shows what they can do for you at fully fused status (at 4/4, for example). When you manually set a crew member to 1/4, the sheet will take into account their lower stats at 1/4. That may indeed change what that crew member is able to do and may end up altering the recommendation.

This allows you to preview what use a crew member would be if you added a single star to them, and lets the sheet show you what the crew can actually do at the fuse level that you have them at.

Not really – the 'Best 3* XXX' indicators are there to show you what 3* crew you might want to focus on when starting out, for for example shuttles. Once your 4* roster starts getting into shape, these 3* recommendations start becoming less useful. You can turn them off on the Settings page. Same goes for the 4* recommendations once your 5* roster builds up.

I am understanding correctly? We can put a 1 in column B and have it calculate stats at 1/4 or 1/5?

Exactly. Up until version 3.00 of the sheet, it only supported fully-fused crew. However, since v3.00 (which was already released quite a while ago), the DNA sheet supports crew at all fusion levels. The only necessity is that they are fully equipped at lvl 100, but other than that, put your current fusion level in column B and the sheet will take into account the stats at that fusion level.

  • Hi again there,
I have noted a small error on the sheet.
Surgeon Pulaski is set as MED / SCI / CMD on the sheet but the actual character is only MED / SCI.
Dunno if DB changed something or not.

I'm not seeing that in my sheet. Can you check if the formula is pointing to the correct row of the stats sheet, and it is not mixing up with Surgeon Phlox who is on the row above and does have the CMD skill? Otherwise check the Stats sheet to make sure the columns E through K for Surgeon Pulaski are well empty
  • All seems ok except column J. K is 2, L is empty.
Yes maybe some mixing on my side.

So after updating Column B, Five of Twelve went from Space to Need. Now, I was adding to the sheet the crew that I had previously not tracked. I would expect that I would get the reverse, more Space recommendations. Getting one that moved to Need seems odd. Is there a logical explanation?
  • Some notes on how I use the sheet .. your milage may vary

    When i get a new card i dont have yet, i put 1 in Col-B and crew-level in Col-G
While leveling & fusing the card i update Col-B and Col-G accordingly , untill the card is either FF or FE

If the card is FE, then i keep the stars count in Col_B and change Col-G to FE, and put an active checkmark in Col-E

If the card is FF, then i replace the stars-count in Col-B with an empty cell, untill i get the card to FE, then i change Col-G to FE , enter the FF stars count in Col-B , and put a active checkmark in Col-E.

This will keep the Recommendation/Reason in working order as the sheet assumes FE when either marking a crew active or adding the final star in Col_B , otherwise u would get incorrect recommendations.

    FYI .. Info on tab1 says ...
Indicate on the Crew tab which crew you have active (at level 100 and fully equipped) by filling out how many stars they have and checking the 'Active' box. A fully-fused crew member not marked as Active, is considered Frozen.

The most likely scenario would be if you set a crew that was previously marked as FF to a non-FF status, that they were no longer eligible for a certain recommendation that Five of Twelve also meets. That would cause him to go from Space to Need.

If you were only adding crew that you previously did not mark at all, I cannot think of a particular reason. Do you know what requirement it was that showed up for him?
  • @Leshy The recommendation says best 5* CMD Base. I only marked crew that I hadn't marked before. Strange.
  • LeshyLeshy ✭✭✭
No, that makes sense in principle.

There are a few crew who have a higher base CMD, so normally Five of Twelve does not make the cut for that requirement. You probably set some of those higher-CMD crew to non-FF status, lowering their stats, at which point a 5/5 Five of Twelve is one of the best base CMD crew again.

I should probably see if I can base that particular recommendation on the default FF stats, however.
  • Yes, that would cause that. Would it explain why I when I mark Interfaced Barclay with a 2 in column B he goes from Voyage CMD/ENG to Space? He was previously unmarked.
  • Synthetic CommanderSynthetic Commander ✭✭✭✭✭
Yes, that would cause that. Would it explain why I when I mark Interfaced Barclay with a 2 in column B he goes from Voyage CMD/ENG to Space? He was previously unmarked.

Because when he was unmarked, the sheet assumed his best crew potential 5/5 at which point he'd qualify for the CMD/ENG voyage. Now that you marked him only 2/5, he's still a viable option to space compared to another crew you've got who's got a stronger CMD/ENG combo until you get more citations on Barclay.

You can experiment with this by temporarily setting Barclay to 5/5 (and wait for the sheet to process the change it takes a minute), and he'll probably be recommended again. This gives you the option to decide amongst the currently recommended CMD/ENG crew, if you'd like to consider freezing/airlocking any of them in preference of Barclay and/or if you want to consider adding citations to him.

Don't know if it's been pointed out yet, but in 3.14 (and I just checked in 3.15) Ishara Yar's stats are switched.
She is showing SCI/ENG/COM instead of SEC/ENG/COM (as the values in "Stats" are switched)

One can manually change them [like I did] but needs to be corrected in the Master.
