I immediately made that connection also. He has a better voyage total than Kortar, but otherwise very, very similar. That has value, but with a very common skill set it is not overwhelming. I'll cite him.

I think that, rather than cite Kol, I will probably cite High Roller Sisko, whom I've already got to 3-stars.

I expected a SEC-primary skill set but had hoped it would be a little more exciting. I really don’t need a new 4th-best base or voyage security officer. He’ll be fine at 4/5* and I’ll get more value from putting citations on other, more-deserving crew.

I thought it was good DB gave Kol a third skill. What else could he be but a Security Command with a little Diplomacy? He cannot have Science or Engineering or Medical. Both Kortar and Kol are Klingons and warriors. It makes sense their skills would be similar. Kol has a huge edge though over Kortar. Kol is bonus crew in every Discovery mega and bonus crew in any more Klingon mega. Kortar can only be bonus in another Klingon mega. And Kol will be bonus crew all month whereas Kortar will not be bonus crew even for one week. Additionally, newer people do not have Kortar so although Kol will not be as a big a help to long time players he will be quite valuable to them.

I started playing just after Kortar, so don't have him.

He will be cited tomorrow because
    a) he has three skills, and is the reoccurring mega crew.
    b) he is discovery crew, so will be useful if the next mega is another discovery event.
    c) he is Klingon. so will be good for Klingon events.
    d) he has excellent stats, even though I have better cmd/sec, he will make voyages when those skills come up.

I did not cite Minuet, because she is useless after her mega. She makes shuttle seats, but that is about it. T'Kuvma I got the fifth star from a be-gold, but he never makes voyages.

Where did we get Kortar? I forget.

EDIT:. Forgot the Wiki. I ain't got him, so will go for maximum Kol of House Kor........

I will cite both Sisko ( now at 4/5 ) and Kol. I started after the Klingon mega.

FWIW, the traits favor Kortar. Hunter comes up on occasion in gauntlet, but his proficiencies don't make him him a highly valuable gauntlet crewman. Hero, cursed, and veteran come up far more frequently in gauntlet and have a couple of mission uses too.

Consensus in our fleet is he's not worth a citation but the majority of us all have Kortar FF.

Unless they add a new collection where he's needed its unlikely I'll cite him in the short term.

Yeah, I can't see myself citing him. More valuable somewhere else. (Not that he's terrible, but there are loads of more useful/interesting characters to finish.)

I didn't cite Kortar but find him useful at 4/5. Instead of citing Kol (as I'm sure he'll do good duty at 4/5) I'm about to cite my desert georgiou to take her from 3/5 to 4/5. She'll get a bonus (albeit smaller) this whole event and plus is she's in two collections I haven't finished yet.

I was thinking they might offer Desert G. as the $10 5* deal tomorrow

Mega events are a good opportunity to give out crew to help fill important gaps. Not everyone has Kortar so repeating the skill set a year and a half later is not a bad idea. They gave out two good meds, two good engineering and a good science crew in the last year. I think doubling back for newer players helps keep the field somewhat level.

I just had Kortar come up on a behold today. I did not have him. Thanks to this thread, I chose not to take him. I picked Garak, Elam Garak, instead. I almost picked Cochran, but decided I liked Garak better and he is bonus this weekend.

    Nah, they seem different enough.
  • I will not cite him at the moment. At the end of this mega i'll have him at 4/5 which is fine for me.

I allready have pretty strong sec crew (Rura Penthe Kirk, Durango Troi, Kortar (only at 1/5) and, at the moment my focus is to cite Kahless

Kortar was before my time, I have however picked him up and have him 1/5 FE, I have High Roller Sisko and Braxton as Citation Options at 1/5 as well. But the thing is if I cite Kol then I will have instant immortal stats. Tough call but I think I will still cite Kol for event bonus and a more instant development on legendaries.

For Security I have a 2/5 Troi and 1/5 Penthe Kirk as well

  • Don't forget for those that don't already have Kortar (like me), that Kol is useful for BOTH Discovery AND Klingon events. Kortar is not. This is a more significant difference to me than traits, it's not too hard to finish most mission nodes and it's not like he completes any very rare trait ones.

Events = potential to compete and gain more powerful new crew. Traits = mission nodes you probably don't need, and gauntlet potential you probably won't use very often (and likely only get you some merits and a few chrons, some of the most abundant currencies in the game).

When was the last Klingon event? I’ll spot you Kol’s usefulness for the next four weeks and all future events where all Disco characters offer a bonus, though my concerns over usefulness stem from a more frequent concern: voyages.

How frequently do the traits that Kol has but not Kortar come up in voyages versus the traits that Kortar has but not Kol? I don’t think anybody is worried about their gauntlet trait availability because the proficiencies are rather poor, while voyages are a twice-or-more-daily occurrence. 25 AM isn’t a lot but it adds up over time, especially when the difference we’re talking about here is between Kol being at 4/5* and 5/5*.

Don’t take this as me completely bagging on Kol...those who didn’t get Kortar to 4/5* or 5/5* from way back will find him an excellent addition to their crew at 5/5*. Those who do have Kortar immortalized but are otherwise light on SEC crew will also enjoy a 5/5* Kol.

However, for the subset of the population who are comfortably loaded on SEC crew, there is a much lesser need to drop 50k honor on him over someone else that would provide a bigger overall improvement. For me, Kol is just ahead of Minuet on the list of crew needing citations; both are ahead of my gauntlet aces and older, weaker 5* crew but behind a pretty large number of crew that would improve skills and skill combos that I’m weak on (MED/ENG, MED/COM, and the like).
  • Captain_WhoCaptain_Who ✭✭✭✭✭
This is the only week where Kol has any value. Next week your old crew, the 3000VP FNG, or a 1/5/1 Kol or 1/5/1 fake #1 all get you the same bonus as a 5/5/FE/I Kol. Then a galaxy, no large and barely noticeable impact, then another galaxy, same thing, different week.

Then going form 1/5 to 2/5 is less difference than a starbase bonus, so again, citing Kol this week is essentially useless. Especially with no (broken) AND missions.

Meh, I'll skip the cite on the dead cannibalistic orc, keep my Kortar, and put the honor on something more, erhrm, honorable.

He has 400% immediate damage (cloak trigger). Combined with Killy, he will be a beast in the arena. Perhaps even skirmishes, though I will have to move away from the Borg cube if I want to use him.

Maybe he is fine at 4/5 (and no need for citation), but at least he wont be a waste of crew space like Minuet. And to be honest, I dont mind a second copy of Kortar. He still makes it on most of my voyages.

I get you, we've got different crew and different needs currently. I've already got all my voyages past 8 hours every time, largely from spending citations on Reverend Phlox, Temporal Prisoner Chakotay and Caretaker. 10 hour non-extended voyages currently require more money spending than I do, so I've moved my priorities to event crew.

I started playing much later than you presumably, as I've never seen Kortar drop and I started playing just before they gave away the free mirror picard. Since I focused on voyage length first, my top SEC base crew is currently Temporal Chakotay and 2/5 HR Sisko is far behind him. 50k honor will net me a second 5/5 primary sec crew in Kol to tide me over until I cite up HR Sisko in a month or two, and give me a decent primary sec klingon and Disco crew (which I have none, I have not even seen away team burnham drop yet).

When was the last klingon event? That's a good reason to prioritize one. We just had a bunch of Sisko events for example, I would not suggest levelling all your sisko's because they've been recent events. :) Janeway on the other hand... is LONG overdue.

I am jealous of your Chakotay...he’s one of my favorite Voyager characters even though he was criminally misused/underused and that is a great version of him.

You have no 5* ship with cloak? Bounty, T'Ong, ISS Defiant, Sarcophagus, Scimitar, Valdore

Bounty has been around since the start, I'm shocked you don't have it from dabo by now.

    T'Ong was Arena award twice.
