Well that's ... underwhelming. Another CMD/DIP/SEC. Let's hope for some great stats.

Based on the other thread, he is #700. At least he was UFP president and it wasn't someone from a random episode half the people wouldn't remember.

The absence of Ambassador Kamarag is getting more and more glaring...but hey, Kurtwood Smith.

Honestly, pretty solid choice for number 700 in my opinion. Since we don't really know much about him, it woulda been cool to give him SCI or MED or something as a third skill...if I recall correctly, he was a pretty passive guy, so I'm not really sure SEC is even that relevant.

This President is not above the law. I therefore capitulate entirely to Klingon shenanigans and hope that Kirk somehow gets himself out of the death camps in time to save me from my own military aide since I will do absolutely zero to help him.

Such a weakling. He should have weak stats to go with it.

Would have preferred Engineering over Security, and his Ship Ability should be "The Structural Dynamics of Flow."

Maybe he'll be the recurring for the upcoming Mega - after all, he is Annorax in disguise. ;)

I think you'll find that he's one of the heroes of the movie who stood in the way of the faction that wanted a war for their own ends. The rest of the plot revolved around them attempting to assassinate him because of that. He is definitely a good guy (tm).

You can draw a line directly from his decisions to Worf being in Starfleet. That's 11 seasons of awesome, give the man some credit!

What did Kirk do? What would Sisko have done? Even Picard would have had some plan to figure out what was really going on (even while pretending to be as weak as this president actually was). He got lucky that there was a Spock and a Kirk and a Sulu to rescue his @$$ from his own naiveté.

Oh, I forgot. He also had the Romulan ambassador sit in on his classified briefings and then asked the Romulans' view on whether the Federation should go to war. Total dupe. I wouldn't use him if I got lucky and landed him in Dabo.

It's interesting how people see the world differently. I saw a guy who understood that war was to be avoided, and was willing to take a risk on that basis. He wanted to rescue Kirk you could see that, but he was also willing to sacrifice him for the greater good. The fact that he was targeted by the rebel faction shows that he had at least put a kink in their plans. I think he was far from a dupe (though I also get frustrated with Nunclus being in the room everytime I watch that scene!). Genuinely thought it was a great performance by Kurtwood Smith and was a good expression of Federation ideals.

It’s great he’s been added. But I must admit my fatigue at the constant influx of diplomacy main characters.
Admiral of the Haus of GaghGagh, Starbase level 94, we are not accepting members at this time.
Captain of the voyage vessels: Queen of Bashir, Landsknecht, and Sunspear, the first luxury starship cruiseliners.
Amenities include wifi, fully-functioning holodecks, a full-service bar, 3 party decks, a Trill spa, and a business centre.
Fun fact: The ships are propelled by bouncy castle technology.

Amen. I almost threw some dil at the pack for Elizabeth Dehner rather than the president (more for TOS love than skills or stats), before remembering the horrific odds of actually getting her.

Unfortunately, command, diplomacy and security seems to cover about 80% of Star Trek characters.

Glad to hear someone got the Prez & Timicin.

I did 2 pulls, each added a * to my Dehner. I'm happy!

I am actually short on DIP characters, my best being Arachniana Janeway. That said, I have all the SR immortalized in this pack, I am not bothered about the other crew, so I have a 97% percent chance of just flushing it all down the toilet.

  • Got stupid Suder which I've already maxed out.

    Waste of DIL.

Arachnia Janeway is still one of my best as well (#2 base DIP, #1 voyage DIP, #2 voyage COM/DIP combo) but DIP is also arguably my deepest single skill, with 11 crew having a DIP base over 1000 and 10 others with proficiencies of at least 300/600. It’s the reason why I haven’t bothered putting the final star on Minuet or any additional stars on my 1/5* Professor Sato...I need more help elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not on Admiral Cartwright's side here. The great hero of the movie -- which is my favorite of all the Star Trek films -- was Spock:
    • Spock set the whole thing in motion by opening the dialogue with Gorkon (at Sarek's behest, not at the President's behest).
    • Spock volunteered the Enterprise to rendezvous with Q'onos 1 to escort Gorkon (and party) to Earth.
    • Spock was the consummate diplomat at the dinner with Gorkon (and party) on the Enterprise.
    • Spock put the beryllium patch on Kirk's shoulder.
    • Spock worked through the evidence on hand as Kirk stood trial, waiting for the right moment to act, using the information gained from the show trial to his advantage.
    • Spock deduced that the Klingons had a Bird of Prey that can fire while cloaked.
    • Spock ordered and orchestrated the rescue of Kirk and McCoy.
    • Spock forcefully interrogated Valeris, despite his own principles, knowing this was for the greater good.
    • Spock (who's been dead before) knew that Sulu would know where the next peace talks would be held and reached out to Excelsior for help.
    • Spock figured out how to detect Chang's fire-while-cloaked prototype Bird of Prey.
    • Spock (with McCoy) performed surgery on a torpedo to defeat Chang.

Spock was willing to use all the tools at his disposal, starting with diplomacy, but when necessary extending to covert action and later overt military action, to reach the right outcome for the Federation -- establishing a lasting peace.

Our naïve president, who never initiated the peace process and was completely oblivious to the conspiracy around him, would have gotten himself killed, and war would have been the likely outcome.

Spock being awesome and the UFP President being heroic even if he's limited by not having plot armor like the main characters is not mutually exclusive. Give the man a break.
