This is probably a personal best rng was definitely kind on this one. But man could have done with one or two extra trait matchups.

Couldn't agree more but that post does also highlight that 9 of the 12 used had high tertiary skills (you could even include Guinan as a +1, as her SEC is high and just outside the top 8 list for Security).

The blend is undoubtedly also important, as is having the majority of trait match ups, thus maximising the rampup in the early phases of the voyage.

High as a percentage or an integer? I think that's the result of higher voyage totals - all but Ru'afo were in the top 40 as of that post. E.G. Guinan's 'high' tertiary is 19.9% of her total. For someone with a lower total, but similar tertiary, Mobile Doc, it's 22.2% of his total. In essence, if you're after a higher tertiary for whatever reason, chasing voyage total will provide more of those. I'm still not convinced of the benefit of a high tertiary unless it's in a skill which is uncommon to the rest of their skill set - I think it's more of correlation vs causation.

I do agree here ... I did some quick calculations yesterday using 3rd skill scores (in relation to uniqueness of skill set) and I found there to be little movement amongst the top rated (non-ff 5*) crew that I own. The best in both categories is Da Vinci.

A notable exception was Dark Ages McCoy ... he went from under just 2 standard deviations to the norm for raw total voyage score to over 3 when considering his raw 3rd skill total (not percentage) and skill combo.

All other top 3rd skill raw score crew (Borg Queen, Braxton, Admiral Janeway, etc.) were middle of the pack.

Side note, I'm only comparing crew to those I own and for some reason I've got a glut of CMD/SEC/ENG crew ... which is pushing the value of certain crew down that might be awesome on someone else's roster.
Also, I'm not currently considering replacement value, because I have so few immortalised crew ... maybe at a later stage, but I don't see myself reaching that within the next year or two. :) I haven't looked at immortalised 5*s because my goal was to look for crew that would be interesting to add citations to to improve my crew in a general sense.

EDIT: Added screenshot below of overview of my crew to give an indication:
    - Dark grey: top crew in main 2 skills for voyages.
    - Bold: top crew in any 3-skill combo per main skill.
    - Italics: 2-skill crew.
    - Bold #: 2+/5 crew.
    - Colours: Standard deviation brackets 3+/2+/1+/between avg and 1.
    - Stamets is Mirror Stamets, Bashir is Prince Bashir (current recipient of citations until immortalised), Pulaski is Dr. K. Pulaski.

Example: Aviator Yar is my highest SEC/ENG/x crew (dark grey) and the SEC/ENG/CMD skill combo is my highest rated skill combo for SEC primary crew that I own (bold) (I don't own the likes of Temporal Prisoner Chakotay unfortunately).
Augment Commander O'Brien is my highest rated 2-skill crew (bold) and a 2-skill crew (italics) - I don't count him for voyages so therefore not dark grey over Aviator Yar.

And yes ... I really should cite up Da Vinci ... but a 1/5 takes so freakin' long (so I often opt for 2+/5 crew). :)

This is probably a personal best rng was definitely kind on this one. But man could have done with one or two extra trait matchups.

I think if you had focused more on traits, your voyage wouldn't have done as well. There is an opportunity cost associated with trying to make that replacement - unless you have a crew who matches a trait and has an equivalent score, you would lose voyage time by replacing them.

Just to establish an estimate of how much a crew contributes to your run, Mirror JLP's Voyage score accounts for 8.96% of your total stats in this scenario, or 53.15 minutes. If you wanted to replace him with a trait matching crew, you would need someone with a score within 2% of his power just to break even. If you have another 5/5 top 25 voyager who matches the right trait *and* has the right skills to fit what's needed then you could gain 30 seconds to a minute.

Alternatively, someone with a better voyage score who didn't match a trait could replace someone like the 1/5 Hawk with a more marked improvement than trait matching would produce. Hawk accounts for 6.47% of your run or 38.36 minutes. Any 3-skill crew at 4/5 or 5/5 without a matching trait would have added time to your voyage if they contributed the appropriate amount of featured SEC. Even a dead average 4/5 3-skill SEC primary (coincidentally using Leland's numbers in this case) without a trait match would have accounted for 45.63 minutes, or enough to get you to 10 hours. At 3/5, his 40.02 minutes would have gotten you there too.

In other words, Fusion level > Voyage score > Trait matching. Like I said, unless you have a hyper competitive roster with plenty of fused legendaries whose scores and skill sets are close enough to be interchangeable, trait matching should not be a concern for voyages that don't involve extensions.

I'll see if I can put that to the test then I perhaps in retrospect should have used Thrax or Mintakan Riker who are both at 4/5 hopefully will get a second shot at the voyage.

Wow this is the post of the day for me. Such a great explanation of traits benefit and voyage crew selection.

A little dilemma for me, with no luck on the event pulls, I am actually considering adding the campaign citation to Obrist rather than Fierce Guinan both are 3/4 and both are mega bonus crew eligible, but obviously I'll get a bit of 3x bonus mileage from this event choosing Obrist. I think his base stats will also be better fully fused albeit completely different skills.

But I also seem to have decent DIP SEC, or vice versa, options in the form of a 4/5 Mintakan Riker and 4/4s Klingon Neelix, Martia and Mirror Vic. I can always clear Guinan in the following month campaign, thoughts?

That’s a tough one. Thinking short term, whichever one of the two fills a bigger need for the rest of the event. Although there’s no guessing what the shuttle slots will look like at the end of the month, there are definitely more SCI/COM and SCI/ENG slots this weekend than there are DIP/SEC slots. I’ve barely used Martia and both Neelix and Mirror Vic end up on SEC-only slots for me.

Thinking longer-term, would Obrist stay out of the freezer at 4/4*? Would Guinan? If not, can you wait to freeze them eventually? If you can hold onto one at 3/4* for a while and intend to freeze them after the mega is over, I’d cite Guinan to be rid of her and wait for Obrist to drop in a future portal pack (or the end-of-month wrap-up pack), unless you get ludicrously lucky with voyage dilemmas.

Seeing the event schedule I'm still citing Fierce Guinan.
    - Obrist won't help in Skirmish week 2.
    - Probably won't help much in Galaxy week 3.
    - Might be of use in Faction part of hybrid week 4. We also don't know any of the other event crew for this last event ...
    - Obrist is not part of a collection.

I guess you might cite, if you can't wait ... I think that even though their SCI base is lower I'm content with trotting out First Officer Saru (immortal), Armus (4/5) and the T'Pol (3/4) from last week ... I mean, I'm probably not boosting SCI seats anyway (I haven't been so far this event).

Guinan is not good enough so I've not used her so far this event ... but I didn't expect to due to weak bases and other crew selection I have.

I have the patience to wait and Obrist comes just a bit too early ... once Guinan is done I'll be using the citation on Faction/Skirmish event crew, especially is associated with a collection.
