To chat or not to chat that IS the question. DB/Tilting Point

OK, no politician type answers, no prevarication this is just a YES or NO answer and one that you need to set a time for too! . Please, seriously I cannot stand it. I have had a number of new crew, they need help, and information, which guess what, is GREAT.. But guess what is not so great, yes you got it. CHAT, I have already had a whinge and moan on another thread, but seriously guys at DB and now Tilting Point. what is the actual problem? Does no one care? does no one have the ability to sort the coding for chat? I can absolutely see that people have been moaning for years about this problem, not exactly cool now is it?
So please, after losing posts, not seeing posts and all that, I know I am not alone, & quite frankly I am slowly losing my MIND.
WILL SOMEONE FIX THE CHAT PLEASE

Thank you

  • No revenue in chat, so not a priority....many use LINE and/or discord for fleet chat.
I quite agree with you that there is no cash in chat, but the point is this for us the players and DB as was and now Tilting Point, IF chat is crap then it also puts off people from chatting,( be it game chat or just nattering & yes just nattering IS part of the game camaraderie, especially now with covid 19 & the lock down) there is a real disconnect when in the game if you have crew branching out to other chat systems that I know people use.

The priority should be to "Contain" the whole game, if it goes off somewhere else just to chat then why have a chat system that fails an awful lot of players.
The whole game either wins or fails by the sum of all its parts, it is a shortsighted and bad business model to let bits of it fall into disrepair is such a callous way.

I will also point out that many people in this game do pay for items, so they are actually customers, could you imagine going to a shop and buying something that didn't work entirely, and that is exactly what is happening here.

( By the way Nomad don't think I am annoyed at you because it certainly sounds like it. I am not. ) I am annoyed at this ongoing situation ...

I have posted about chat issues several times, including screen shots of two people in same fleet at same time...one with full chat, the other an empty screen. Just not holding any hope of it being fixed anytime soon....
Dear TP: Non sequitur. Your facts are uncoordinated.
  • Seriously?? OMG thats truly garbage!
What is excruciating about this is that the game engine is on the market for other people to purchase.
    sigh

  • Hi. +1 for being frustrated with the in game chat. Naturally, our fleet has a Discord server. A reason why both of us joined that fleet, as well as it being casual.

About a year ago, my brother and I sent private messages to each other, just to see how buggy it was. We also talked on a chat app and it was all over the place with when something turns up or not.

And it sometimes prevents you from sending another message to a chat, because the other person is supposed to get a chance to answer. So they might have to write something, to unlock the chat again too, even if they might be waiting for you?

There are whole apps dedicated to messaging and chatting. I think it would be expecting a lot to ask a game to include anything comparable. Like @Nomad (FADM:Patterns of Force) , we also run Discord. No matter how much TP may (or may not) work on in-game chat, it will not include pictures, like screen shots.

Our inventories are capped at 1,000 unique items and 32,767 copies of an item because of storage limitations. Allowing pinned/saved/stored messages in each fleet/squadron/private chat would take system resources.

Discord, Line, WhatsApp, etc. have been around long enough that I think game developers just count on their more social and a swath of their more dedicated players using a third party app. I'm happy enough that the game has a back-up communication system.

    Sorry if I'm a bit of a downer, but that's my 2¢.

This. STT is not a chat app. Better to give the resources to something actually contributing to the game play. The in-game chat may be useful when you're looking for a fleet, or if you're trying to get new members for your fleet, that's all, but again that too is much better done outside the game.

I left my first fleet due to in game chat because I honestly thought they were ignoring me.
I second what Lorca says. There are other games that have significantly better chat in game and yet they also use discord and/or line. Personally I really like screenshots, and being able to pin important information. And you know, being able to see messages from more than 10 posts ago.
One could argue that a good workaround was providing this forum, and I think it should be better advertised in game.
