Strange that this is one of those topics that doesn't move to the top of page when there's a new post. it just keeps moving down so it will eventually disappear. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

Not that I'm a conspiracy theorist, but...

Oh...wow. Yeah. Looks like the time stamp displayed for the most recent post gets conspicuously backdated on the topic list page. What a strange 'bug.'

My question is why are folks defending DB at all in this thread? It's absolute garbage they extended the event an extra day. It's absolute garbage they've offered no additional rewards. It's absolute garbage they've increased the points for the same thing usually offered for less points. What am I missing here?

You are missing that those are not the point?
Also entirely for clarification, I have no comment on the increase to the thresholds. We smash them easily. This discussion is about DB's statement, and its accuracy and intent.

This thread is on a single statement, and whether it is misworded, misleading, or wrong. Not a thread on the extra day, additional rewords, reward scheme. Those are all very good issues and they deserve to be talked, but please can we concentrate long enough to remember what the topic of a thread is?

We can just respond "this is not a big issue, we should concentrate on other stuff". FFS.

  • Most people can't seem to grasp the fact that even if you get the first reward 10 sec before the event ends you can clam all community rewards. So neider the longer phase 1 or the higher threshold of rewards won't help normal people out and enjoy there holiday. It just says a big screw you to the rest who will play a: they are not from the US. B: they got roped in by DB's ruse to screw with there social life.
DB: Do Better. Disrupt the Beam's Revenue Stream.
  • So. I think this is really just a case of it being a very poorly worded explanation with a completely innocent intent.

I believe the intent of that particular phrase is to convey that: The Phase 1 period has been increased by a day in order to allow more players to participate and have a chance at the community rewards, and, as such, the thresholds have been increased to account for the extra day.

I'm all for sticking it to DB where it is due. But I'm not sure that this is deliberately misleading or them thinking that we're dumb. DB has historically not been very good at making words that clearly explain things. In my opinion, this is simply one of those times where they can't make words good.

Sorry, but this is not the case. "This will allow for more players to participate and have a chance at the those rewards." Nothing in here is close to what you are trying to translate.

If a player gets even 1 VP, he will get the community rewards, so where is the "chance"...the opportunity that DB "gave"?

Players already participate, so where is the "allowing"?

The only thing that they did, was to make it harder to get the community rewards. THAT'S IT. And now they are trying to sell it as a "look what good thing we did for you". And that is RUDE!

Here is what you are missing:

    - The Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. is a Big Deal, and it is reasonable for DB to want to have the majority of their staff be able to enjoy it at home with their loved ones. Starting the event a day earlier allows DB to ensure it is going smoothly prior to the holiday. It would not be good for them to have left the start date as the usual Thursday when it's a holiday.
    - Because it is a Galaxy event, it will not require the same type of constant attention like a Faction event (i.e., logging in every 3 hours to rotate shuttles), making it ideally suited for a long weekend, and the extra day will not keep any determined player from being able to reach the ranking that is achievable for them, based on their spending profile (i.e., if you are not a F2P player, it does not matter whether you start your spending on Wednesday, or later on); literally a player could ignore the extra day, and start on Thursday (or even the first 4 days, and start on Sunday), and still finish in the same spot. I suspect many players will put in a substantial push on Wednesday, then coast for 3 days, and do a final push on Sunday night/Monday morning.
    - As was noted by someone else in the other thread, the community will likely achieve these higher targets within 24 hours, and so since we have 72 hours to do so, the increase truly is not something meaningful to be getting all upset about it.

No, I think the question is "can Shan use that 16-word sentence, is it a factually inaccurate statement, should DB have used it when it is possibly an inaccurate statement, should we players feel offended by a bit of PR jargon".

You might still find this screams of irrelevance, but let's try to keep this thread on its topic.

I cant see us not hitting the extra rewards I just think the announcement was poorly worded. If they said
"Because of the extra duration of the event, and the extra chronotrons from voyages we have decided to increase the community threshold to make it more challenging for the player-base. While this will frustrate some players the community rewards are intended to be a challenge reached with group participation."

Then I don't think many people would have a problem with it either way, we are sure to get them. I do wish there was more of a reason to play though as the rewards table is rather pants for a 5 day event. I can probably clear the threshold rewards in a couple of hours, maybe less. Then I have to decide weather to push for Dax, or just relax and not worry about it.

+1. This wording improves on every single aspect of the previous message.

  • Because Jim's statement is use of honest language, intended to instruct and inform.

DB's statement is untrue. It is at best rhetoric. It is intended to mislead, or it assumes we players are stupid. I can't get past that.

To be fair, the rewards needed complete review, not only threshold ones. Player base have increased etc, they just don't make sense anymore.

I don't think they communicated the change out of malice but were naive and innocent about it. As someone else posted, i also get the impresión English isn't their first language.

I can understand the other thread being closed down because it was not particularly productive anymore.

I'm posting again in here hoping a few things:

    1. Don't stop at reviewing the threshold rewards, revirew the whole system, maybe it's time to make a percentage based system?
    2. I know it's not Shans fault and I hope she doesn't take these posts personally.
    3. I do hope that when Shan says the feedback will go upwards it does, and that someone actually will listen. Oh, and actually react of course.

That point cannot be emphasized enough. Shan is just the messenger. Most everything comes from higher up the food chain. Let's not attack Shan because of decisions made other places, please.

The problem is previous DB employees like Becca and Nod had earned the trust of players and appeared to be an actual advocate for players, but were often stuck by what decisions DB corporate was making. Shan has not earned that trust and instead repeats corporate BS and doubles down on those mistakes expecting players to believe statements that are proven to be untrue.

The people {like me} who are HELPED {a little} by getting to participate a little more than one hour Monday morning......

Becca and Nod are conspicuous by their absence. Shan is not. Perhaps herein lies the reason why.

Calling this an irrelevant argument is still on topic. We all get the same rewards, nothing different happens. Save your anger for something that actually affects players.

Of course. Since this a discussion, your intervention is entirely on topic.

I was just noting that we're not discussing a topic that you find irrelevant (whether we can hit the community rewards), but another topic that you find irrelevant (the wording of a 16-word PR sentence).

Actually, I disagree with this point.

Shan either (a) was given general information, and crafted a statement that was somewhere between poorly worded and misleading, or (b) was given a statement that was poorly worded or misleading, and failed to properly proofread/pushback on it.

Unless (b) occurred and she did push back, but was intentionally overruled (which would mean extreme ill will by DB managment against their customers), this IS Shan's fault.

Not sure it's irrelevant or not, but it's clearly off topic from the OP.

The first topic makes the second one irrelevant. It doesn't matter how they word it if it has absolutely zero effect on players. We already know that DB can't communicate well.
  • As I said in another thread. the production team is aware of your feedback regarding the length and rewards for this Galaxy Event. The event duration and mechanics will remain as announced, but we will take your suggestions into consideration the next time an extended event takes place.

Regarding the Community Rewards and increased thresholds, I am sorry that the phrasing caused confusion. Those were my words, and there was no subtext behind them.
My intention was to explain that the change to the thresholds for the Community Rewards was done to align with the longer duration of this event

I would also like to remind everyone again that while it is perfectly acceptable and encouraged to give negative feedback, such feedback must comply with our Community Guidelines.

Opening up multiple new threads on the same topic, and making personal attacks will not be allowed. This thread will now be closed.
