If you regularly win 5* crew you will lose 1-2 crew slots per week to unfused crew. Unless you spend money to fully fuse your incomplete versions. FF 5* crew is very expensive. Immortalizing 1-2 event 4* crew per week, which is challenging, still won’t prevent slot loss completely.

Then you need to make some choices. We all know the parameters. Crew slots are limited. You can buy more, or you make crew choices. We'd all like to get free crew slots each month, but it's not going to happen.

Never say never. They have listened to their customers before.

I'd actually agree with you if they increased the purchasable crew slots more often.

I agree we need more slots, the gulf in ratio has become too great and the game is just turning in to a cryo treadmill.
What is the point, when you have to keep a wide variety of your 1/4 purples so you can start fusing them up when one drops, you can't exactly choose what purples drop, thus you have to keep a high percentage stash of them to make it a distinct possibility of being able to fuse them.
If you can't hold on to the majority then you can't actually make use of them or enjoy using them for a spell.
Even the revive feature I would argue needs to be looked into if they are going to instist on 16-20+ required crew for each faction events etc, etc.

I seriously don't understand this Stockholm Syndrome defending a bad process and design.

It's not about defending anything. Nowhere do I defend it. I simply accept it as reality. Crew slots are limited, by design.
You're welcome to be a masochist and enjoy card collecting with a very small container for your cards.

I wouldn't call someone who adapts their play to the known parameters a masochist. I'm not playing gotta catch them all, and I've expanded my container to a workable size for my needs.
However, condescending attitudes towards what is obviously quite a large quantity of people who want a better system are counter productive at best..

I wouldn't call my post condescending. I mean, I'm not accusing people of having a psychological condition or anything. I'm merely saying that they need to work within the confines of the game rules, and while they can continue to beat the "more crew slots" drum, it's unlikely they'll ever be satisfied with the number given.

Very nice indeed. We should have some sort of contest, with the winners getting...I don't know, some sort of prize. Not sure what we'd want though...

I enjoy* the challenge of leveling crew efficiently. Why would I waste dilithium when the game gives me unlimited character storage. See my sig for details.

*Ok, I have an immense surplus of stuff. Crew leveling isn't really a challenge anymore.
    VIP 9 - 165 Crew Slots - 412 Immortals
  • Practical Suggestions:
Add some more VIP levels past 14 with each one granting more crew slots

    And/or

Add more collections but with non stat bonuses, instead give things like extra crew slots, bonus replicator daily usage, % increase on any honour rewards (from voyages, airlocking etc)

I just thought I’d say I find nothing wrong with this comment. Dralix was just stating an opinion in a respectful manner. I obviously disagree with that opinion, though the truth remains. Those are my only options if nothing changes. I may not have much cause to hope for change. I will still make the occasional thread on this topic though to remind DB that I think the current system is insufficient.

I'll give that an awesome. :)

I'm sure stt has run the numbers and makes more money this way (forcing you to spend money to get crew slots to spend more money to get crew). Guess there isn't enough of us that stop spending when run out of crew slots to make it worthwhile to change the way they do it.

See, you would think so, but this is the same company that gives us Sail the Starry Skies 5 weeks in a row...

I think you need to consider several points though Firstly, the sheer number of new better crew they release, that in itself changes the parameters of the confines of the game and increases the burden on the already insufficient number of crew slots.

Secondly increasing the number of crew required for faction events.

Thirdly keeping the same number of merit activations the same we have already hard earned to put them there in the first place, I'm not saying make them free but increasing number of activations would be reasonable.

Fourthly the introduction of collections encourages collecting more cards yet we are restrained because of required crew to do events, daily challenges, arena, voyages, gauntlet, campaign away missions etc.

This also leads on to a fifth point of having an impact on portal purchases and increasing the reluctance to purchase because of full slots. The more they release new card after new card the les people will end up purchasing not necessarily because they don't want to but because they can't.

In short DB are constantly changing the parameters yet keeping one thing the same which doesn't support the new parameters.

  • I think DBs biggest hindrance in handing them out regularly and generously lets say 15 every mega event style, is there are a large number of players that have spent a fortune on their slots. They might get a little salty. On the other hand extra the slots that they purchased they still will have and will remain useful so maybe not completely upset.

Normally, I'd agree with you. But this is a company that did not bat an eye at giving out a free 5th star to everyone including a bunch of people that just paid either $25 or one month+ worth of daily honor-collecting.

And besides, let's not lose sight of the original reason for crew slots: because the code is so bad, they had to artificially prevent players from keeping too many crew active. They didn't fix/improve the code or throw more horsepower/servers at the problem, they decided to punish their players instead.

And to throw more salt on the wound, they decided to monetize their poor code!
  • I play 3 games regularly. All have "crew slots" This is not the lowest number. There is one that limits a player to level 45 and only has 13 characters. The largest limit is 999. And everything in that game is limited at 999.

You don't have to chase every new crew. Especially if they keep introducing better crew. That makes them like a bus - another will come along in 15 minutes.

I don't think faction events put much of a strain on crew slots. At maximum, you'd need 20 slots if you're running 4x 5 slot missions. The bare minimum is 65. But regardless, crew slots are a resource that needs to be managed. One option - don't take any new crew member that isn't an upgrade of an existing one you can freeze.

Collections require immortalizing. So anyone kept just for a collection can be frozen. Again, crew slots are a resource to be managed.

No player knows if this has any actual impact on revenue.

I wouldn't say that exactly, but it may require changes in play style.

Let me clarify my position a bit. I'm not saying don't give us new crew slots. If they added 5 slots today, I'd have them filled in a minute. If they ask me how much should they give, I only answer "More! More! More!"

But we've been told that crew slots are limited for performance reasons. Some people think that's BS and it's all about money. Frankly, it doesn't matter. They know we want more. They'll give us more, and it won't be enough. So the best we can do is learn to play with what we have and as soon as we get more, rejoice for 10 seconds before we need more again.

Sure I get that you don't have to get every crew, however you tell me how many recent ones are ideal for voyages, bonus crew - main character potential, better voyage stats than before et al. Waiting for the right one is like waiting for a bus that don't come in the dead of night.

RE: Factions it's a contributing factor particularly if you still want a strong voyage crew during event to continue to be able to work on general or bonus crew.

RE: Sure collections are fine once immortalised, but I am talking about the long arduous process of collecting them - that's what fills up the slots - you can't exactly put a 1/4 level 100 in cryo.

Sure no player knows for sure the impacts on revenue, i don't think DB have either because they haven't experimented/explored the other side... but I ask you this question how many people buy a six pinter of milk take a sip and then throw the rest down the drain that's actually what a 10x pull represents.

We can't really change a play style if the confines are the same, as the main part of the game stays the same but the demands on crew keep increasing.

At this point you may be sick and tired of "more crew" or the "more honor" drum brigade but this is exactly the feedback players are entitled to provide here on the forums, it's clear you wouldn't mind more slots yourself but I do question the reason for your reticence about the issue.

@Dralix you are right on point with everything you’ve said on this thread. 143/180 crew slots filled here. 33 Immortal Legendaries so I’m not hurting performance wise. In fact it helps. I don’t have 362 people unequipped. I have 143 fully equipped.
  • It's been suggested previously, but I really do think the solution is that you can use crew straight out of cryo without thawing them out.

We were told that the reason for the limited slots was having to check back with the server for the level and items on each crew. Immortalised crew members all have the same stats, so less database hammering required (perhaps these could even be stored client side?)

For the many of us who have purchased crew slots - keep them, you'll need them for non immortalised crew.

The result, everyone suddenly gets a whole bunch of available slots, since they can freeze all of their immortalised crew and still use them. Then they spend $/£/€ on packs!

    Everyone's a winner.

This is such a drastic change I literally don’t know how I feel about it. I would be in shock! Maybe DB has given me a crew slot complex and I don’t know how to function without limitations now😂😂😂.
